In his first game after taking over as coach, Benni McCarthy’s team, Cape Town City, defeated Polokwane City 1-0 in their MTN8 quarter-final game at Cape Town Stadium on Saturday.
The game has been described as a solid start to Benni’s tenure with the team being strong on defense and their combined attack.
They were extremely dominant in second half but it was pointed out that they were also wasteful in front of goal.
Although this is an encouraging start, Benni admitted that the team is still “a work in progress”.
“The signs are there that the boys can play but I think now it’s back to the drawing board again,” said Benni.
Describing his team as dangerous, he says he is very proud of them and feels privileged to be part of the team. “These boys have gone out there and played for me and I can’t really ask for more”, said Benni.
They will be taking on Bidvest Wits next which is to take place either on the 26th or 27th of August. Time and dates will be announced.
