For the second year in a row, Raven Klaasen and Michael Venus have ended the dreams of Lleyton Hewitt completing a fairytale return to Wimbledon.
Venus and Klaasen defeated the veteran Australian and his compatriot Jordan Thompson 6-3 7-6 6-2 on Thursday as last year’s finalists advanced to the third round.
The match was played on court 14, with an 11am start time.
The match was tight at the start, but Hewitt was broken at 3-4 in the first set and then Venus held serve to put the South African/New Zealand team a set up after 24 minutes.
Klaasen and Venus went up 2-0 at the start of the second set and they kept that lead for most of the set.
The third set was another one that Klaasen and Venus comfortably won in less than half an hour and it sets them up with a third round match against Robin Haase from the Netherlands and Denmark’s Frederik Nielsen.
