Congratulations to Emile Jansen and Cadi de Jager for being named as the 2016 Lead SA Western Cape Regional Heroes. LeadSA asks the public to nominate ordinary South Africans doing uplifting work in their communities. Although these individuals seek no praise, their contribution to making the world a better place should be recognised.
Emile was selected for harnessing his creativity to empower and inspire young people. He has dedicated his life to changing the lives of young people in the Cape Flats and since 1998 has impacted thousands of lives through his Heal the Hood project. The project started as an informal community-based volunteer organisation and provides an alternative cultural experience for Cape Flats youngsters.
Cadi was selected for taking the initiative to raise money for the Red Cross Children’s Hospital just to say thank you for the treatment she received at the hospital. Cadi was diagnosed with Rathke’s Cleft cyst a couple of years ago. She spent time in the Red Cross Children’s Hospital and has now become an ambassador for the ‘Children’s Hospital Trust’, sharing her story. She is a true and natural champion of the ICU public appeal, having been a beneficiary at the Hospital last year.
