Congratulations to 11 year old, Glenore Richards, for winning a full scholarship to attend The Drakondale Girls Choir School in 2017. Born and raised in Sydenham, the talented Durbanite was judged the best out of 170 girls who auditioned. She says that when she auditioned, she felt nervous but excited and proud of herself for getting this far. The St Theresa pupil says that her favourite songs are“slow and kind of emotional”.
The Drakondale Girls Choir School is an elite learning facility that will open its doors in 2017. Based on the prestigious, Drakensberg Boys Choir Schools, Drakondale boasts among its directors and teachers, the granddaughter of Nelson Mandela, Thandile Mandela, a noted musical expert in her own right.
The school started its recruitment process by visiting various schools and identifying the most talented members of those schools.
