Elsies River High School has done it again, winning the 2019 Band Slam Competition.
The Band Slam is an annual event where high school bands in Cape Town come together in a clash of musical talent.
The audience is treated to a wide range of instruments and genres, and each band is judged by a panel of some of the best musical minds.
The bands are judged on a wide range of attributes which include technical proficiency, artistic ability, originality, stage dominance, school spirit and enthusiasm.
The competition was a week-long event which took place from the 7th to the 15 of March.
As with previous years, it was held at the V&A Waterfront.
This is the school’s sixth year competing and the third time they have won.
They took the title in 2017 and 2016.
In addition to this title, over the last few years, the school’s music department has produced talent that has won several other competitions.
These include winning the High School Jam, the South African Schools Choral Eisteddfod and the Marching and Drill Competition.
The choir has also achieved gold medal status in the provincial and national choir competitions.
