It is one thing to be top in your class, but quite another when you are the top Mathematics learner in the world.
Last week, it was announced that Rizqah Hassiem had received the Cambridge International Outstanding Award for ‘Top in the World for Mathematics’ at AS Level.
The award was issued by ‘Cambridge Assessment International Education’, which recognises exceptional learner achievement in Cambridge examinations around the world.
A learner at Reddam House in Durbanville, Rizqah completed AS level maths and was awarded based on her performance last year during matric.
AS level subjects are done during the first year toward completing a 2 year Advanced Level curriculum.
Rizqah says that doing AS level maths prepared her for university maths. She adds, “It’s a big sacrifice, but focusing on where you want to be in the future will motivate you.”
Rizqah is currently studying Actuarial Sciences at Stellenbosch University.
Another Reddam learner, Tara Hall, was also awarded for Top in the World for Language and Literature in English at AS Level.
‘Cambridge Assessment International Education’, is a programme that was formed by the University of Cambridge 150 years ago.
It sets the global standard for international education; operating in 10000 schools over 160 countries, representing 8 million learners.
