Last year, the Eastern Cape’s Sherwin Bryce-Pease became the first African to be elected as the President of the United Nations Correspondent’s Association. This year, they felt he did such a good job, that they re-elected him.
Based at the United Nations (UN) headquarters in New York, the UN Correspondent’s Association represents journalists from all around the world and reports on all activities of the UN. Sherwin’s job is to make sure that media has access to the UN and he is also responsible for planning the association’s gala awards. At this year’s gala awards, Angelina Jolie was presented with an award for Global Citizen of the Year.
Sherwin, who currently works and lives in Manhattan (New York), is also the SABC’s United States Bureau Chief & Correspondent. He is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Dag Hannarskjöld Fund for Journalists, a trustee of the USA Rhodes University Trust, and he regularly donates large sums of money to the Rhodes’ bursary fund (a fund that helps students to pay for their studies).
