Bulelani Manyakama, the policeman and ex-boyfriend of the champion boxer, had succumbed to head injuries sustained after fleeing from the murder scene.
It was reported that after he had shot both Leighandre and her mother, he was involved in an accident that led to the death of two and injuring one.
He was expected to appear in court for his crime.
Reacting to Leighandre’s death, was the Chairperson of Parliaments’ select committee on Education and Technology, Sports, Arts and Culture, Mamagase Nchabeleng.
“This shocking incident has robbed a young woman of a bright future, a family of a beloved daughter and the world of a boxing star,” said Mamagase.
He described Leighandre as not just a hero to many women across the world, but shattered the opinions of those who think that females do not belong in boxing.
He called the incident an “example of the harsh realities of abuse and violence against so many women”.
