Congratulations to Hanover Park teen, Charné Ruiters, for being accepted to the prestigious Oprah Winfrey Academy in Johannesburg.
Despite having lost both her parents and living in difficult financial circumstances, the 13 year old Charné is a straight A pupil who is currently in grade 7 at Belmor Primary. Her principal, Carol Poole, describes Charné as a hardworking and determined pupil who will go far in life.
In 2010, Charne’s father died in a car accident and shortly after that, her mom passed away due to illness. She lives with her step-grandfather and her three siblings in their two-bedroom home in Cascade Court.
Charné’s favourite subject is mathematics and she says that she is excited about being given the opportunity to fly in an aeroplane for the first time.
