Kraaifontein athlete, Shannon Arendse, seems to be well on her way to becoming a top South African athlete. She returned from Zimbabwe where she bagged three medals in the Confederation of University and College Sports Associations Games (Cucsa), representing the SA Varsity team. Shannon received a bronze medal in the 4x100m relay, another bronze in the 4x400m relay and a silver medal in the 200m.
She has been competing in athletics since the age of six and she attended the same primary school and was in the same athletic group as Wayde van Niekerk and Cheslin Kolbe. Over the years she has received numerous medals, certificates and sporting acknowledgements and she has has represented Stellenbosch University at various athletic competitions.
Shannon is currently a second-year student at Stellenbosch University studying BSc. in molecular biology and biotechnology. Shannon does not believe in giving up, and she believes that the thing that matters is the strength that lies inside of us. If we bring that strength out into the world, miracles happen.
