Powering through a 3rd consecutive straight set victory, South Africa’s Raven Klaasen and his New Zealand partner, Michael Venus, have firmly established themselves as the clear favourites to win Wimbledon’s Doubles title.
Playing Court 17, the duo barely broke into a sweat in their 1 hour and 17 minute 6-2 6-3 7-6 victory of the Netherland’s Robin Hasse and Denmark’s Frederik Nielsen.
After the (Raven/Michael) duo won the first two sets fairly easily, their opponents decided to fight back, but with little success as Raven and Michael won the tiebreak, 7-0.
The duo will now go through to the quarterfinals, which will commence on Tuesday, but it has not been confirmed as to who they will be up against.
Raven is currently the only South African that made it into this year’s quarterfinals.
When he wins his share of the R6.7million grand prize, he will become the only South African to have won a Doubles title.
