Bredasdorp Kids Takes Gold and Silver at National Chess Championships

With a population of 15000, Bredasdorp proves that dynamite comes in small packages. Three of Bredasdorp Primary’s learners have taken top spots at the  South African Junior Chess Championships in Gauteng.

Competing against 2200 of South Africa’s top young chess players, Latham Kotze won the under 10 category taking gold. The second place silver was taken by Luke Valentine in the under 8 category and Brandon Edwards in the under 12 category. Brandon also won the board price because he won all seven games he played.

The Junior Championships is held once a year here the best and brightest minds tries to outsmart each other on the chess board. It is the largest junior sporting event of any sporting code in South Africa and the participants are between the aged 6 to 19. The winners goes on to compete on the international stage.
