Ten year old, Leo Matthyssen, started playing tennis at the age of four, and is described as “one of the hottest properties” in tennis. Not only did he secure a sponsorship at the age of eight, but he has an impressive amount of titles under his name. Born and raised in the Mitchells Plain, the former Parkhurst Primary School pupil is the Western Province MINI 3 Tournament for both singles and doubles, the Challenger event champ, the Mini-Series 1 doubles champ, the Wilson tournament champ and the Rox tournament champ. Leo is also only the second South African junior to compete in the Smirkva Bowl World Championship Tournament held in Croatia. He currently remains undefeated in the Western Cape for 2016.
Leo also loves to play soccer and he plays for the Mitchell’s Plain Clinic of Excellence (MPCE) on Saturdays. His dream is to play in Wimbledon and his favourite player is Rafael Nadar.
